On the 25th, the project titled "Climate Adaptation and Resilience: Rural Communities and Agrofood Industries along Kilombero River Floodplains Landscape" was officially launched in the Kilombero Valley. The event was attended by esteemed guests including the Kilombero District Commissioner, District Executive Officers, Ward Executive Officers, Community Development Officers, Agricultural and Land Development Officers, farmers, agro-food processors, and representatives from the National Microfinance Bank (NMB).
The workshop commenced with an inspiring opening address by the District Commissioner, Dunstan D. Kyobya, who highlighted the urgent need for environmental conservation to enhance climate resilience among small-scale agrofood producers and processors in the Kilombero Valley.
Following the opening, the Project Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Deo Shirima, presented the project's objectives and their significance for fostering climate resilience and improving rural livelihoods in the Kilombero Valley.
This was followed by insights from Prof. Marion Pfeifer of Newcastle University, who discussed the lineage of the AgCARS project in relation to climate risks and evidence-based policies.
Dr. Hamidu Seki concluded the speaking sessions by providing an overview of the scenarios titled "Envisioning the Future of Small-Scale Agro-Processing Industries."
